Christian Fox says in-form Selby Town aren’t giving up in the race for the play-offs.
But Fox admits the odds are stacked against them as fifth-placed Rossington Main are now nine points above them.
“We’ve always said we’ll take each game as it comes and see where we end up at the end of the season,” Fox told Non League Yorkshire.
“The chance is still there but it is not in our hands anymore which is the disappointing thing.
“Sometimes it being in your hands can go against you and maybe us as a team play better when the pressure is off.
“There is no pressure on us and we’ll see how we go.
“We have lost three games in 17 which is not bad and two of those defeats have been against the top two teams.”
Even if the Robins do not reach the top five, the former York City star has done another decent job and he agrees it has been a good campaign.
“It hasn’t been a bad season even if we don’t make the play-offs,” he said.
“We started off really well and then we had a disappointing blip around the time when we had the disappointing news the budget was going to be cut.
“The lads stuck around and stuck together and we bounced back with a really good run and we’re still on that run as far as I’m concerned.
“We’re eighth in the league and at the turning point when the budget was cut we’d have probably took that.”
Selby have been in great form since November and the defeat to Hallam in midweek was their third defeat in 17 games.
The leaders were just too good for Selby.
“They were too strong for us and I think they’ll be too strong for every team looking (at Tuesday),” he said.
“Everyone knows their jobs and they do the basics well.
“I thought were started brightly in the first few minutes by turning them down the sides.
“For some reason we started doing what we said we would try to avoid which was giving set-pieces away and letting wingers get one versus one.
“They killed us down the sides and obviously a few crosses and set-pieces and they are 3-0 up and the game has gone.
“I thought we had three or four good chances in the second half but the game had gone.”
