Garforth Town striker James Burgess has been like the Messiah since returning as his goals have helped relaunch their promotion bid

James Burgess’ hat-trick helped Garforth Town’s cruise to an 8-0 victory at basement side Athersley Rec.

Garforth are now back in second place, at least for 24 hours.

Burgess, who has been some sort of Messiah since returning from Tadcaster Albion as his goals and assists have relaunched Garforth’s promotion bid, hit an 18 minute hat-trick in the first half.

Charlie Marshall and Hass Gorji both got doubles.

Swedish-American defender Kevin Terhaerdt also netted.
