Nash Connolly put Hemsworth ahead

Hemsworth Miners Welfare have given themselves a fighting chance of pulling off the great escape going into their final two games of the season.

Hemsworth beat basement side Athersley Rec 5-1 in Fitzwilliam but they survived a scare as Shane Kelsey was haunted by his best mate Ryan Eastwood who gave the Rec the lead.

Nash Connolly (2), Steven Jeff, Charlie Barks and Declan Dawson scored for Hemsworth.

Destiny though remains out of their hands as Albion Sports have three games-in-hand.

Even if Hemsworth win their final two games, Albion can relegate them outright if they collect eight points out of an available 15.

Albion went down 2-0 at home to Nathan Jarman’s Barton Town.

Albion also finished with ten men.

Silsden were hammered 6-0 at red hot Winterton Rangers who look a good bet for the runners-up spot.

Winterton have now won 11 games on the bounce and they are above Eccleshill United on goals difference.

Eccleshill went second for 24 hours with their 2-0 defeat of Bottesford Town on Tuesday night.

Ben Bodle and Luke Aldrich scored.
