Haslam scores twice in Swallownest’s win at Worsbrough

Toolstation NCEL Division One

Worsbrough Bridge 0-2 Swallownest

Swallownest manager Alex Nightingale

Rejuvenated Swallownest seized an important three points thanks to a disciplined display at Worsbrough Bridge.

Jack Haslam’s first half penalty and second half bullet header earned Alex Nightingale’s men the win.

After the highs of the dazzling victory over play-offs chasing Retford FC, if Worsbrough Luke Forgione had hopes of a top eight finish, those dreams are probably up in smoke after defeats to lowly Shirebrook Town and Swallownest.

Worsbrough were not at the races and created little.

A penalty awarded for a handball allowed ‘Nest to take the lead.

Haslam sent Bridge goalkeeper Ross Pritchard the wrong way from the spot.

The home side did have the ball in the net in the early part of the second half but the goal was ruled out for offside.

A corner led to Haslam’s second goal. He leapt like a salmon inside the six-yard-box to send the ball into the net.

Worsbrough’s ended on a further sour note as Lewis O’Connor saw red after making a wild challenge.

The result effectively relegates Clipstone who have North Ferriby and Hallam to play in two of their final three fixtures.

FC Humber United are seven points behind Swallownest with six games to play.

The two sides are also due to play each other again.
