Sumaili Cissa scored a hat-trick for Eccleshill United who clinched second place

Eccleshill United have put themselves in a position where could win promotion the Northern Premier League for the first time in the club’s history.

Eccleshill won 6-0 at already-relegated Athersley Rec to clinch the runners-up spot – their highest ever finish.

What comes next for Eccleshill remains unclear.

Second place means Lee Elam’s men will be either promoted with nine other clubs at Step 5 with the best points-per-game ratios or face a play-off final with a team finishing third bottom at Step 4.

Eccleshill had a relatively comfortable afternoon at Athersley.

Sumaili Cissa hit a hat-trick, Luke Aldrich scored twice and Kelvin Bleau converted a penalty.

Garforth’s Hass Gorji

No second place for Garforth Town but Paul Marshall’s underdogs won 2-1 at AFC Mansfield to secure third.

Hass Gorji struck with two quick-fire second half goals.

Winterton Rangers claimed fourth place as they won 3-0 at Maltby Main.

Penistone Church’s campaign fizzled out with the 1-0 home loss to Staveley Miners Welfare.
