Pickering set for life in the Northern League

Pickering Town manager Steve Roberts

Relegated Pickering Town are set to join the Northern League following the release of the FA’s proposed National League System allocations for next season.

Instead of rejoining the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division, Pickering face trips to the likes of Thornaby, Ashington, Whickham, Redcar Athletic, Whitley Bay and Newcastle Benfield.

The move may mean a reshaping of the first team as some of the away trips may be too far for some.

However, Steve Roberts did target and recruit several North East based players during the NPL Division One East so the move to Northern League is not one to be afraid of.

It may also open the door to North East-based players who previously stayed clear of signing for Pickering for travelling reasons.
