A long-serving defender has signed a new-one-year contract with Russ Wilcox’s Farsley Celtic.

Farsley’s reformed history’s record appearance holder Adam Clayton is sticking around the Citadel for Wilcox’s first full season in charge.

Clayton has played 273 times for the Celts and was part of their rise from the NPL Division One North to the National North.

Clayton told Farsley’s website: “It’s the same as every time I sign a new deal, I leave it up to the club and as long as I’m wanted by the manager then I will continue to play for Farsley.

“Last season was like three seasons in one with the changes of management we had, and overall it’s best left forgotten, but the lads stuck together and in the end achieved what was required.

“Going forward, it’s as it is every year; we want to try and push for a play-off place and finish as high as possible in the league as a collective.

“As an individual, I’m aiming to play as many games as I can to help the team, and hopefully that will bring another 40 or 50 appearances next season.”

Eight players so far are staying with Farsley.

Chris Atkinson, Jimmy Spencer, Luke Parkin, Lewis Turner, Tom Allan, Dave Syers and Lewis Butroid have all been confirmed in recent weeks.
