The club captain of Tadcaster Albion has retired from playing.

Simon Russell, 38, hangs his boots after a 20-year career which began with Hull City.

The midfielder went onto play for Kidderminster Harriers, York City, Cambridge United, Lincoln United, Alfreton Town, North Ferriby and Gainsborough Trinity.

He joined Tadcaster in 2020 and quickly became a popular player around the club.

Tadcaster have yet to return for pre-season but the start of the NPL season is ages away in mid-August.

Tad kick off their pre-season campaign with the home friendly against Redcar Athletic on 9th July.
