Penistone Church kicked off their pre-season campaign with a victory along with a newish signing.
Kieran Ryan struck in the first minute and again in the second half as Penistone celebrated a 2-1 win over Barnsley under 23s in front of nearly 400 people.
Penistone’s signing also has a connection to Barnsley.
Ex-Barnsley academy product Cameron Simpson played 33 times in his previous spell at Penistone during the Ian Richards era.
Full-back Simpson had joined Church after his release from Oakwell.
He returns to Church after a spell out of the game.
Penistone are next in action on Tuesday when they host Sheffield AFC.
