Interview

Goole AFC manager Mike Carmody

Mick Carmody says Goole AFC have come on leaps and bounds on and off-the-field and he is urging his team to build on last season.

“Success is not just on-the-field with Goole at the moment,” Carmody told Non League Yorkshire.

“We have been there 18 months and had one full season and the whole infrastructure has changed completely from top to bottom.

“I think we have to kick on and be looking at mid-table to eighth spot.

“If we can get into the top eight that would be superb.

“But on the hand what I will say is the league is far, far stronger this year than it was last year.

“Nearly all the teams coming into it I would say have bigger budgets than us.

“But it is exciting and there’s no easy games in this league.

“I think it is brilliant for the league.

“Hallam are coming up and what they were getting (for attendances) is outstanding for NCEL.

“Ferriby have always have good following and their ground is probably one of the best in the league.

“It is going to be a tough season but it is one our lads will relish.”

Carmody is also looking forward to seeing his forwards in action as he has Nathan Perks, Luke Williams, Sam Cable, Silas Valladolid-Collins and Marcel Chipamunga at his disposal.

“It is one of the most exciting strike-forces I’ve had,” he said.

“I put Marcel and Silas, who should get more goals, in there as well.

“Luke and Sam know themselves that they can score 20 goals this season.

“Luke really needs to kick on and add more goals to his game but he’s an absolute handful.

“We played Scarborough in pre-season and both Sam and Luke were superb in that game.

“If they can a few more goals to their game they’ll have had really good seasons.”
