Houghton Main got off to a brilliant and positive start to the campaign as they edged a 4-3 thriller against revitalised Ecclesfield Red Rose 1915 to progress into the second round.

Lee Winslow and Andrew Wright both scored twice for new manager Donavan Cotton’s side.

Robbie Fretter, Jack Goodall and Callum Hawksworth struck for Chris Rix’s Ecclesfield who had Cameron Foster sent off for two bookable offences.

Houghton now face a showdown with Darren Hepworth’s Hepworth United in the next round.
