Darren Hepworth’s Hepworth United laid an early marker down with a fine 3-1 opening day victory over Handsworth Reserves.

James Pilkington, Enos Huly and Sam Thompson netted for Hepworth who are a club transformed and are expected to be a force to be reckoned with this season.

Pat Muirhead was Handsworth’s goal-scorer.

New Penistone Church Reserves centre-back Harry Hurst

Penistone Church Reserves themselves flew out of the blocks with a 4-0 destruction of Stocksbridge Park Steels Reserves.

New signing Harry Hurst got one of the goals against one of his old clubs.

Brad Kemp, Alfie Broughton and Ryan Hallsworth were on the score-sheet as well.

Wombwell Main’s memories of a difficult summer were completely erased and Terry Simon will have been jumping for joy following a magnificent 4-0 win at Sheffield Town.
