Ex-Scarborough boss takes Pickering helm

Northern League

New Pickering Town manager Rudy Funk

A well-known former manager of Scarborough Athletic has taken charge of Pickering Town.

Rudy Funk returns to number one management six months after his exit from Clipstone, becoming the permanent replacement for Steve Roberts.

Funk is best known in North Yorkshire for leading Scarborough to the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division title in 2013.

He has also managed Long Eaton, Rainworth Miners Welfare, AFC Mansfield and others.

Some may be surprised by his appointment as it was assumed Pickering would appoint someone with Northern League experience.

Because of their geographical location and new league placement, Roberts found it hard to attract players because of the travelling commitments.
