Great Fox era ends at Selby

Christian Fox has left Selby Town

The great Christian Fox era has sadly ended at Selby Town after the club announced his departure.

He leaves after the 7-1 defeat to title contenders Campion but bequests a strong league position and decent side to whoever his permanent successor will be.

His loyal assistant Jonny Bruce has also departed.

Bearing in mind Selby had gone through nine managers in seven years until his arrival in 2017, former York City attacker Fox’s reign has been a big success.

Partly inspired by superb football on-the-field crowds have shot up to unprecedented levels – to the point of breaching 400 before the pandemic.

Selby have consistently challenged at the top end of the table and reached their first West Riding County Cup Final in 2018.

Had the pandemic not curtailed the 2019/20 campaign, he would have led Selby back to the NCEL top flight.

He signed untested NCEL players from the York and District League and turned them into top Step 6 players – several who remain on Selby’s books today.

He leaves a huge legacy and will be remembered as one of the club’s best ever managers.

Selby host Glasshoughton Welfare in the FA Vase on Saturday.
