Ossett moving in “right direction” – Colliver

NPL Division One East

Ossett United manager Jas Colliver

Jas Colliver says Ossett United are moving in the “right direction” following a difficult start to the season.

Ossett won on the opening day but then faced a tough run of fixtures against some of the fancied sides in the Division and ultimately found points hard to come by.

Now after a win over Sheffield FC in the FA Trophy and the 1-0 defeat of the FA Cup heroes Stocksbridge Park Steels in the league, Colliver is buoyed.

“I was never panicking and I would never say the corner has turned,” Colliver told Non League Yorkshire.

“How I prepare never changes.

“I don’t know about corner being turned?

“We had a few iffy results but if you look at our results I said before we had even kicked a ball that our first month was a really tough one.

“I don’t think we have been blown away by anyone, even when we got beat by Stockton.

“We gave them three goals.

“We travelled to Dunston and did really well. They are the best team we have played.

“Against the teams in-and-around us, that’s where we have to pick the points up.

“We have a run of fixtures where we are hoping to pick up points.

“If you get back-to-back results in this Division you can jump up four-or-five places.

“We’re in the next round of the FA Trophy after a positive result and performance (against Sheffield FC).

“We have had a positive reaction and positive (against Stocksbridge) and got three points.

“We’re hopefully moving in the right direction.”

Colliver was particularly impressed with his side’s defending in the past two games.

“Last Saturday we reduced Sheffield Club to a few chances so it was a good platform to build from,” he said.

“We have had a lot of desire in the last two games to keep the ball out of the net and we have put bodies on the line.

“We have shown real togetherness.

“Sheffield scored on Saturday with a long throw-in and it was a good looping header.

“(Against Stocksbridge) I felt we were comfortable throughout.

“They hit the bar with a long range free kick and an offside towards the end.

“It was a great clean sheet so I’m delighted.”
