Garforth celebrate their third goal during the 7-3 defeat of Maltby Main

Red hot Garforth Town disemboweled Maltby Main by incredibly scoring seven in the battle of the form sides.

If you wanted value for your £6, Garforth was the place to be as both sides served up a very entertaining contest.

Although they fell away in the second half, Maltby were definitely in the game in the first half as it was one of most end-to-end games you’ll ever see.

The Main had two notable very early chances while Garforth, now unbeaten in ten league games, had one cleared off-the-line.

Maltby’s undoing was clearly their defending. Maltby themselves had been eight unbeaten as well.

Sam Barker ran some distance unchallenged before firing Garforth ahead in the 25th minute.

James Burgress tied Maltby in knots all afternoon and he added the second after being put through one-on-one with goalkeeper Dylan Parkin.

The signs that the match had the potential to be a Liverpool-Newcastle goal-fest came when Aaron Sennett-Neilson brought Maltby back to life with a low finish.

Sixty seconds later and Burgess scored again to take Garforth into half-time with a two-goal advantage. 3-1, if you have lost track.

Given Maltby’s win at North Ferriby last week with ten men, they couldn’t be wrote off.

However, Garforth were on the front-foot straightaway and Matt Antcliffe hit the post after rounding Parkin.

Antcliff then redeemed himself by setting up Charlie Marshall for the fourth.

Maltby’s comeback hopes were over and heads noticeably dropped.

Antcliff then repeated his trick, suppling Barker with his second goal of the afternoon.

Luis Silva had an instant impact after coming off the bench. He went through and scored with his first touches to add the sixth.

Sennett-Neilsen pulled one back from the spot for Maltby late-on before an Elliott Simpson free kick reduced the deficit even further.

Silva though had the last word – scoring Garforth’s seventh deep into injury-time.

What They Said

Garforth Town manager Paul Marshall

Garforth Town manager Paul Marshall

“We took them apart in the second half and I think we should have scored a lot more goals than what we actually did.

“There were a few missed chances.

“They obviously had a bad day office and then we took our foot off the gas and given away two silly goals so that was disappointing.

“It was a good game. They were eight unbeaten, we were nine so it was always meant to be a tough test but I thought we dismantled them in the second half.”
