Ossett Albion have signed former England Youth International George Green, who recently left Oldham Athletic.
Albion hope the midfielder will make his debut in the Doodson Sports Cup tie with Mossley on Tuesday night.
People in Yorkshire may have of heard of Green as he signed for Everton at the age of 15 from Bradford City in a deal worth up to £2million despite interest from Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
He has also represented England at U16, U17 and U18 playing in the UEFA U17 European qualifiers, including scoring against Estonia.
Albion manager Richard Tracey said: “George is a magnificent capture for our club and a lot a hard work has gone into this over the last week. It shows how far we have moved forward in the 3 years that we have been leading the club in terms of attracting players.
“I have known George for 9 years, ever since I was his PE teacher at my previous school, but we are both also from the same Town. This really helped in the decision process for George who just wants to get back playing and enjoying football over the coming months before deciding where his long term future lies.
“He’s had a tough year but gained first team experience at Tranmere last year and we will do everything we can to help him move forward again but in the meantime he will be a major asset to us here. I can’t wait for him to get started.”
