Pontefract Collieries came close to breaking the record Northern Counties East League victory last night with the 12-2 drumming of crisis club Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Pontefract were 8-0 up at half-time and appeared on course to surpass Tadcaster Albion’s 13-0 thrashing of Bildworth from the 1997-98 season.

Collieries joint manager Duncan Bray said last month that he felt the game should not be taking place after Moorlands failed to raise a team for when the match should have been played in November.

Lincoln, who have been besieged by problems for at least three seasons, then refused to travel to Selby in late December which angered the North Yorkshire club.

Selby boss Dave Ricardo called the postponement a “disgrace”.

Some may argue they did the same last night in Division One.

Aaron Moxam got a hat-trick in the first half as Liam Radford, Andy Catton, Mark Whitehouse and Luke Forgione scored to blow the visitors away.

Moxam hit two more and Catton and Craig Rouse completed the huge win with second half goals.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare moved one point behind second-placed Clipstone following a 2-1 win at Eccleshill United.

A rapid start saw Nick Guest and Harry Viggars find the score-sheet.

Marcus Edwards gave Eccleshill late hope.

On Tuesday night, Selby Town held leaders AFC Emley to a 1-1 draw.

Jamie Forrester put Selby in front Alex Hallam equalised.

In the Premier Division, Cleethorpes won 3-0 at Handsworth Parramore to go third.

There was more home joy for Glasshoughton Welfare after a 2-1 League Cup third round victory over Bridlington Town.

Barton Town Old Boys lost 3-1 to Winterton Rangers in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy third round.

Reece Thompson’s winner deep into injury-time gave Frickley Athletic a much-needed 2-1 win over Blyth Spartans.
