Sam Akeroyd came off the bench and scored two goals to give Graham Nicholas a winning start as the new Ossett Town manager.

Akeroyd scored the opener four minutes after arriving on the pitch and then wrapped up the 2-0 Integro Doodson Cup victory at Goole in the closing stages with a second goal.

The cup tie gave Nicholas his first chance to his new charges play and also hand debuts to Simon Rogers, Ross Shelton, Tawanda Rupere, Luke Mangham, Dan Monfredi and Mark Simpson.

Ossett’s began to take control on the hour and striker David Brown sent a warning out with an effort that Goole goalkeeper Sam Andrew easily dealt with.

Then with one of his first touches, Akeroyd, who played at Garforth under Nicholas last season, turned T’nique Fishley’s cross into the net.

Goole struggled to find a way back and Akeroyd sealed the victory in the dying minutes with a low drive.
