Joe Thornton scored a hat-trick for Athersley Rec, but it wasn’t enough to ensure all three points.

Thornton rattled home a eight minute treble in the first half, the last being from the penalty spot.

This was after a bad start which saw Retford take an early lead through Christian Savage. Athersley goalkeeper Neal May then saved Adam Lee’s penalty and that triggered Thornton’s quick-fire efforts.

Lee reduced the deficit for Retford late in the first half. The equaliser came late-on via Savage.

Athersley Rec: May, Scully, White (captain), Welford, Hague, Almond, Cawley, Smith, Pleasants, Thornton, Briscoe. Subs: Copping, Tyas, Hancock, Shillito, Cook.

Maltby Main pulled off the result of the day after deservedly beating Worksop 3-2.

Maltby recovered from conceding an early goal to score three first half goals through Nicky Darker, Josh Nodder and Lee Hill. Kyle Jordan’s late goal gave Worksop hope.

Manager-less Nostell Miners Welfare lost 2-1 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare.

Bridlington Town smashed struggling Brigg Town 7-0 with Will Waudby, Chris Adams (2), Joel Sutton (2), Jamie Reeson scoring. An own goal completed the rout.

Pickering Town held off a late fight-back to beat Parkgate 3-2. Mitch Hamilton, Joe Danby and Ryan Cooper were on the score-sheet for Pickering.

Two second half goals from Brad Ricketts and Corey Mortimer earned Barton Town Old Boys their victory over Pontefract Collieries.

Ferdinand Annor’s goal was all Albion Sports needed to beat Garforth Town.
