After the harsh defeat in midweek at Shaw Lane Aquaforce, Stocksbridge needed to win to keep their hopes alive.

Chances were limited throughout the 90 minutes and Stocksbridge struck with 20 left – Scott Ruthven pouncing to score with a clinical strike after good work from Spencer Maw.

Stocksbridge Park Steels (starting line-up): D Reay, Meade, Tootle, Gregory, M Reay, McFadyen, Maw, Biggins, Ruthven, Lumsden, Coleman.

Goole AFC 0-1 Chasetown

Lee Morris tasted defeat in his first game in charge of Goole AFC.

The decisive moment came on the stroke of half-time after a few minutes of heavy pressure from Chasetown.

Goole thought they had escaped conceded after a strike cannoned back off the crossbar. Jake Stannard then did well to clear the ball out for a corner. Chasetown continued to press and the goal eventually arrived from a Paul Sullivan free kick.

Chasetown dominated for a large part of the second half and also hit the crossbar again. Morris threw himself into the heat of battle and straightaway watched his first shot fly over the crossbar.

However, the experienced striker was unable to make the difference.

Goole AFC: Waring, Steeple, Taylor, Foster, Colbear (captain), Varley, Stannard, Booth, Guest, Moxam, Robson. Subs: Greasley, Kay, Mackie, Morris, Beaurepaire.
