Goole AFC received a shock parcel from Premier League outfit West Ham United last week.

After hearing of the plight of seriously injured goalkeeper Jack Wheat, West Ham donated a signed shirt. Wheat was involved in a collision just 17 minutes into his debut on 12th March at Market Drayton Town. He was diagnosed with a fractured skull, fractured eye socket, broken jaw and compressed cheekbone. He has since been told he can never play again.

A letter from West Ham kit manager Pete Williams read: “Please find enclosed a signed goalkeepers shirt of ADRIAN. In which ADRIAN, DARREN RANDOLPH, RAPHAEL SPIEGEL, CHRIS WOODS, and DAVID JAMES have all signed for your goalkeeper Jack Wheat.

“We all wish him a speedy recovery and was all saddened to hear of his injuries. I hope this shirt comes of some use. From all your friends at WEST HAM UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB.”

Goole are nearly at the halfway mark of their efforts to raise £5,000 for Wheat, who was presented with the shirt prior to the 0-0 draw with Coalville Town yesterday.
