Stocksbridge Park Steels goalkeeper David Reay looks set to miss the start of the season after breaking a finger.

The injury was picked up in training a few weeks ago. It was thought at first that it was a minor problem until he aggravated it in the Sheffield United friendly after making a save.

Harrogate Town under 21s goalkeeper Ben Ledger has been signed as cover. Ledger was released by Scunthorpe United at the end of last season.

“We’re hoping it is only going to be four or five weeks and we should know in the next couple of weeks if it is going to be a bit longer,” Chris Hilton said.

“It is healing nicely and the doctors are happy with it. He gets another X-Ray soon and if they’re happy then he won’t need an operation.”

Hilton and Stocksbridge have been very quiet in the transfer market during the summer. Everyone from last season, apart from Rory Coleman (Ilkeston), has been retained and only released Lincoln City midfielder Sam Fewkes has arrived.

Hilton does expect to add a player from a higher league to his side in the next two weeks.
