Toby Wells saved four consecutive penalties as Pickering Town pulled off a stunning replay win over Northern League giants Sunderland Ryhope.

Pickering won the tie after an epic battle which went down to penalties after a 3-3 draw. Wells’ heroics then earned the Pikes a 2-1 shootout victory.

The first match finished 2-2 after a dramatic Pickering comeback and the replay was even competitive.

Ryan Blott’s 70th minute equaliser forced extra-time and within two minutes of the 30 minutes starting, Lewis Taylor scored from the penalty spot.

That was cancelled out before Blott appeared to have won it for the Pikes. However, a dramatic equaliser in stoppage time in extra-time forced penalties.

Taylor and Danby scored in the shootout, but Wells was the hero.

Bridlington Town eased to victory at Silsden, winning 3-1 in their replay.

Nostell Miners Welfare lost 3-2 to Maine Road. Danny Harris and Steve Smith’s efforts were in vain.
