Lane’s appeal to be heard tomorrow

FA Trophy

Shaw Lane AFC

Shaw Lane AFC’s fight to clear their name and avoid expulsion from the FA Trophy goes to Wembley tomorrow.

Their appeal will be heard at 2.30pm tomorrow afternoon.

Shaw Lane chairman Craig Wood blames the FA’s members area – which is used to monitor discipline – for his club fielding Alex Byrne in the third qualifying round victory over Nantwich Town.

Byrne was banned from playing after collecting five cautions, however the system only showed four – it did not show the yellow card he received playing for Northwich Victoria at the start of the season.

Mr Wood says the “system is flawed” and that is the crux of his argument in his appeal.

Their exit from the tournament meant the eagerly-anticipated home tie with Lincoln City was cancelled – meaning that there were a lot of disappointed fans who had already purchased tickets.
