Hepworth focussed solely on Emley

Concentrate on ourselves, not anyone else – that’s the message from promotion-chasing AFC Emley manager Darren Hepworth.

Second-placed Emley are two points ahead of Hall Road Rangers, who have two games-in-hand.

Hepworth retains the belief that his side could still catch leaders Pontefract Collieries, but he is not getting distracted from his own team and is focussing solely on how Emley do.

“At this stage of the season, and I’ve said this to the lads, although Ponte are on a great run they could still slip up,” Hepworth told Non League Yorkshire.

“The maths still say that. They’re saying that they’re going at it a game at a time. We have teams chasing us, and in the end you have to look after your own business.

“You can spend a lot of time looking at another team’s business. I say take care of our own business and see where we end up.”

Emley have seven games left, starting with a trip to Yorkshire Amateur tomorrow and Hepworth has warned his players not to take their foot off the gas.

“It is always a tough place to go,” he added.

“But all the next seven games are tough and if we are not at our game, we could slip up.

“You saw the game against Campion. We were 1-0 down at half-time and we were beaten 1-0 by Brigg Town and we lost at Teversal, Pontefract.

“It can happen and if you are not on your game, you can get punished.”
