Parkgate safe after win at Bridlington

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Bridlington Town 1-2 Parkgate

Parkgate striker Alex Lill scored the goal to keep his team in the NCEL Premier Division

Alex Lill completed the turnaround as Parkgate won at Bridlington Town to secure safety with one game to spare.

The victory relegates Barton Town Old Boys and seals survival for Parkgate, who only had one point on the board after the opening 13 games. A run of five wins and a draw from their last six matches has maintained Parkgate’s status in the NCEL Premier Division.

Bridlington had star man Joel Sutton missing and fellow key player Brett Agnew on the bench. But that did not stop them taking a first half lead through a wonder goal from stand-in captain Andy Norfolk.

Parkgate turned the game on its head with two goals inside three minutes in the early part of the second half.

Macole Lannaman grabbed the equaliser following a scramble before Lill lobbed Bridlington goalkeeper Steve Janney after some confusion.

Parkgate held on to secure safety, almost 12 months to the day when they sealed survival at Bridlington last season.

The Teams

Bridlington Town: Janney, Lewis, Knaggs, Kirk, Pappril, Bedford, Harrison, Taylor, Day, Blakestone, Norfolk. Subs: Walters, Fox, Fleming, Jenkinson and Agnew.

Parkgate (starting line-up): Hunter, Lannaman, Hirst, Howard, Alali (captain), Zalo, Emmett, Mbeka, McDonnell, Lill, Thornton.

  1. The Great escape. they should win the team of the month and manager of the month. The inform team, with one of the best defenses in the last 2 months

  2. Excellent turn around from a top class manager and team who put so much effort into every game! They fought for their victory yesterday and deserved the 3 points !

  3. Im not a fan of curtis woodhouse but perhaps his playoff idea is a good one. That way he wouldnt put out such a weakened team against a team fighting relegation. Its understandable from Bridlingtons point of view with cup finals ahead but surely that should be looked at for the integrity of the league?Wonder how barton feel looking at brids starting 11?

    1. If you look at brids starting 11 against Barton that wasn’t a full squad,so dont pull parkgate down on a great result for league safety

      1. Well said Paul! With our form at parkgate recently it wasn’t just playing Brid that secured our safety! We have had 5 games unbeaten , league form of recent sits just behind cleethorpes and Pickering with wins against liversage and stavley ( who were unbeaten in 12 games when we took 3 points from them)
