Selby Town have sacked manager Nigel Emery

Nigel Emery has been sacked by Selby Town after the club’s committee voted to unanimously relieve him of his duties.

The club say that he has been axed because of posts on social media about the club – which they say broke the club’s code of conduct.

Tension has been building for some time. Emery criticised the club’s committee in the York Press in February, while chairman Ralph Pearse recently said the season had been disappointing

The news ends a year in permanent charge for Emery, who was Selby’s under 19s boss before taking over from Dave Ricardo.

Interested parties are asked to get in touch with Selby before the deadline of Friday 6th May. Selby also say that candidates should have a UEFA B coaching license.

  1. It’s a bit of a strange one. We desperately need stability. However this season has been quite dull. Regardless of any indiscretions, it might have been worth rolling the dice again anyway.

  2. It’s sad really – Selby have great potential, and given their relatively uninteresting season, a good level of support but until the playing surface and clubhouse improve – which will only come from external investment that doesn’t seem likely to come from anywhere – the club can’t be much more than a mid-table NCEL 1 outfit.

  3. Just had a conversation in my local sounds like Selby have pooped on another manager. Christian Fox has a Uefa b license. You heard it here first!!

  4. Fox has won the league this season with his York League Club. There could be worse appointments. We need to stop going through so many managers as we will be making a name for ourselves.

    1. we’ve got to get someone who will attract players. how many poppleton lads will do the job in ncel? need a strong management, decent coach and not just a strong front man. need a good background team with em

      1. 100 per cent agreement. Only 8 years ago we were pulling players from everywhere and reaching cup finals and top three of premier division. Local manager, local back room team just good contacts in the game. We’ve been through so many managers from different perspectives surely it’s time for tried and tested…

        1. alan Stubbs.key for me is contacts. I couldn’t care where the lads are from as long as 100% is given.couldnt even care about over experience.lots of first time managers doing well this season in ncel with extremely good contacts
