Sam’s the physio for Garforth

New Garforth Town physio Sam Crawford

Former Glasshoughton Welfare physio Sam Crawford has taken up the same role at Garforth Town.

Crawford, who is well known for raising thousands of pounds for Cystic Fibrosis UK, replaces Paul Cavell who stepped down after nearly 30 years service.

As well as a long stint at Glasshoughton under several managers including Craig Elliott and Rob Hunter, Crawford has also been the physio at Nostell Miners Welfare and Ossett Town.

“Sam was fantastic for me at Glasshoughton,” said Hunter.

“She’s reliable, loyal, committed, enthusiastic, everything you want in a physio. Sam will be a brilliant addition to what we are building at Garforth Town.

“She knows a lot of the players already because people like James Beaston and Paul Hagreen were at Glasshoughton Welfare when myself and Sam were there so she slots straight in.”

Paul Cavell has retired after almost 30 years of service to Garforth Town

Hunter saved the final word for outgoing physio Cavell, who was given a terrific send-off at Garforth’s presentation night on Saturday night.

“Loyalty is hard to come by in football these days so over 25 years is unbelievable,” Hunter said.

“Garforth Town will be a lesser place with Paul Cavell. He has been a brilliant servant to this club and how admired he is at the club was shown by the standing ovation he got at our presentation night.

“The players love him, the supporters love him, the volunteers love him, the owners love him. We’re going to miss him. He’s a hard act to follow.”
