Record-breaking Garforth Town striker Mark Simpson has agreed to join Frickley

Two dangerous Toolstation NCEL Premier Division strikers – Mark Simpson and Steve Hopewell – have agreed to join Frickley Athletic.

Simpson, who was Non League Yorkshire’s Crawford HR January Player of the Month, leaves Garforth after a record-breaking season. The young former Pontefract Collieries forward hit 30 goals – ten of those coming in successive matches. It is a massive shame for Garforth that he has left as he was a huge fans’ favourite.

Hopewell is reunited with Fearn as he played for Maltby in the two seasons, scoring lots of goals at the same time.

Fearn said: “I have known Steve for two years now and you will not find a more honest and hardworking player. He is strong, a real handful for opposing defenders, scores some cracking goals and is a big influence on and off the field.

“I have also seen Mark the past two seasons and been very impressed with him, he has two great feet, superb movement and is clinical in front of goal. When we spoke he decided pretty much straight away that he wanted to join us. I am delighted to have two further players with this quality in our squad.”
