Lewis Nightingale has had to leave Farsley Celtic after taking up a position with the youth academy at Premier League side Everton.

The midfielder will be working with Everton’s under 14-16s players. Nightingale has been a leading youth coach at Bradford City in recent years.

The move to Merseyside means Nightingale has to put playing on the back burner for a while.

His third spell with Farsley ends on a major high as he was part of the promotion-winning squad.

“Being offered a role with Everton and their Under 14-16s players is massive for my career and an opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” Nightingale told Farsley’s website.

“Last season was, as I look at it now, the perfect way to go out. Getting promoted and being a part of that was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Nest – met and played with some great lads and the club is such a great place to play. I will miss being part of it.

“For now I’m going to put the playing boots away and concentrate on my coaching. Maybe in time I’ll be able to get them out again, but the commitment to my new role will make it difficult.

“I would like to thank everyone at Farsley and I wish Adam (Lakeland) and the lads the best for the new season and I’m sure they’ll end up where they want to be.”
