Deep into injury-time in extra-time, Stocksbridge were heading out of the Senior Cup at the First Round stage.

That was until Ben Rhodes and Joe Lumsden intervened to snatch a seemingly unlikely victory at Sandy Lane.

There was a ferocious start to the match as Alec Denton hit a fourth minute opener before Lumsden equalised with a weak effort as the half-hour mark approached.

The crowd had to wait until deep into extra-time. With nine minutes remaining, Matthew Thompson scored the rebound from his initial attempt.

That should have been game-over. However, Worksop’s Matt Varley saw red for a second bookable offence and from the free kick, Rhodes made himself a hero by turning the ball home from close range.

With penalties looming, Stocksbridge went for broke and Lumsden breached the Worksop back-line and went through and scored.
