Ray Green and Lee Ryan oversaw Harrogate Railway’s 6-1 defeat to high-flying Pontefract Collieries at Station View on Saturday.

The pair held the fort as player-manager Liam Gray was relieved of his duties early last week. Green and Ryan were his assistants.

Railway’s committee said in a statement: “This was not an easy decision as we realise the circumstances regarding team selection were difficult at best, but due to the long run of defeats it was felt we had to act.

“We would like to thank Liam for his time and energy while in the position and wish him all the best for the future.”

Railway were well-beaten by Pontefract. Goals from Eli Hey, Jack Greenhough, Kane Reece, Mark Whitehouse, Mikey Dunn and Vaughan Redford eased the Colls past their hosts. Nathan James scored a late consolation for Railway.
