Athersley trio join revolution at Nostell

New Nostell Miners Welfare defender Dec Welford

Three very experienced Athersley Rec players have joined the Jason Dodsworth and Simon Houghton revolution at Nostell Miners Welfare.

Defender Dec Welford, midfielder Tom Almond and top goalkeeper Neal May have checked into the Crofton Community Centre to help lead the charge towards survival.

Welford has been a real stalwart for the Rec, while Almond has previously played for Penistone. May is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the league and has played in the Evo Stik for now-defunct Wakefield FC.

The trio have not featured many times for the Rec this season.

Dodsworth told Non League Yorkshire: “I’d like to thank Athersley Rec, especially Pete Goodlad for the quick and smooth transfer of the lads. It is greatly appreciated.

“We’re delighted to sign three players of high calibre. All three have vast experience in the NCEL and they will play a massive part as we look to climb the table.”
