Disability Football for Juniors in Barnsley

NLY Community Sport is delighted to announce that we are launching Disability Football sessions in Barnsley for children (aged six to 16) with disabilities and learning difficulties.

The training sessions will be held every Monday, starting on 19th February, at Springwell Learning Community (S71 2AY), starting at 5pm and finishing at 6pm. Each session will cost £4.

Our sessions will be aimed at improving social skills, life skills and confidence. We will be aiming to create a team, which will compete in leagues and competitions, in the long-term.

Coaches Connor Rollinson and James Grayson said: “Since we formed NLY Community Sport, setting up sessions in Barnsley has always been one of our main aims.

“So we are delighted to be now about to give something back to young people in the area.

“We’re currently also running successful Disability Football sessions with Pontefract Pirates and Nostell Miners Welfare and there is regular success stories from those sessions, such as lads competing for GB in the Mencap European Championships in Geneva.

“We hope there will be many from the 19th February onwards. We’re very excited.”

Connor and James run adult and junior Disability Football sessions on a Friday night at Nostell and on a Saturday and Sunday morning for Pontefract.

They coach players who have been to Geneva or had trials for the Mencap GB team.

They also coach lads who competed for Yorkshire and Humberside side in the August Special Olympics which was held in Sheffield and attracted National Media attention.

Their Pontefract Juniors team was only launched last April and they have started playing league games and in tournaments.

The adult Nostell team started in September and two players, David and Callum, have been invited to trials for the Mencap GB team. They were not actively playing football prior to September.
