Selby Town pulled off their greatest scalp in years by beating a strong Tadcaster Albion side to reach their first County Cup final since 1993.

Regardless of whether they win promotion or not, Christian Fox has truly proved himself to be the club’s messiah with their latest victory. Written off by a host of critics in the summer as relegation fodder, Fox has punched them squarely in the face by creating a play-offs chasing team, as well as leading them into a Cup Final – where they will face Farsley Celtic.

Selby rode their luck as Tadcaster hit the woodwork several times.

The first goal came via magic man Joe Dale, who latched onto goalkeeper Paul Hagreen’s long punt forward in the 51st minute to score.

Striker Liam Flanagan added the second with 17 minutes remaining. He got past three defenders before slotting home.

  1. Fantastic game, well played all. Shame for Tadcaster as they had some great chances but Paul was man of the match for me – some amazing saves.
    Can’t wait for the final!

  2. From all supporters in Spain we send a massive well done to all at the club. What a fantastic achievement by the players and management team.Roll on Farsley Celtic in the final.

  3. Only sorry I missed the game as I have been in hospital all week, It was one of the very few matches I have missed that Paul has played in. I had both Tadcaster twitter and selby twitter on, it sounds as though all the lads were brilliant. Can’t wait for final

  4. Great football again well deserved win promotion first cup final cherry on the cake proud chairman the club is rocking robins

  5. Good decision to play with more of a 4-4-2 formation, got in Tads faces every time they received the ball. Great on the counter attack but our strength was definitely our defending, not just the defence and Paul but the whole team. Each player gave their all and were very organised / disciplined, well done to all.

  6. Joe Dale is on fire..fancy joining a National League North side (due to move to a new stadium in 2019)?

  7. That was a fantastic result for Selby. I’m looking forward to a trip to Valley Parade to watch the Robins.
