Young Casey Stewart rounded off a great breakthrough year by scoring the late winner which has sent Pickering Town into the Evo Stik for the first time in their history.

The dual-registered Tadcaster Albion attacker, whose recent goal spurt also fired the Brewers in the ES North play-offs, struck with nine minutes remaining to crush AFC Mansfield’s hopes.

Pickering’s triumph is also the end of long wait for Paul Marshall who has wanted to manage again in the Evo Stik for a long time. In 2005 he led Goole AFC to the Premier title, but wasn’t given long in charge after being promoted.

It was certainly a tense contest as Pickering, who simply had to win, didn’t score until deep into the second half when Joe Danby struck.

The door was suddenly ajar and it was soon nearly when Carl Stewart rattled the crossbar. However, Hall Road hit back as Dane Mortimer equalised with a header.

But, Marshall’s heroes weren’t to be denied and Stewart popped up with the historic winner.
