Ponte and Nostell players set for Geneva trip

Geneva bound Ryan Gore and Callum Deary with their Pontefract and Nostell coaches Connor Rollinson and James Grayson, wearing their Mencap GB shirts

Two footballers from Pontefract Collieries and Nostell Miners Welfare will play for the Mencap GB team at the European Championships in Geneva later this week.

Ryan Gore and Callum Deary, who play for the Disability Football teams at Pontefract and Nostell, fly to Switzerland on Thursday for the once in a lifetime opportunity.

Ryan is a long-term Collieries volunteer supporter who has played for the club’s disability team for a few years. Until last September, Callum was not actively playing football. When the Nostell team was launched, he immediately joined and has enjoyed success within a few months.

Connor Rollinson, who jointly runs the Pontefract and Nostell Disability teams, said: “We know Ryan and Callum are going to have a brilliant experience over in Switzerland, not just from a playing football point of view, but a social perspective.

“We’re very proud of what they have achieved. Both of them deserve the opportunity and they got a great send-off at the Pontefract and Nostell sessions this weekend.

“Their trip to Geneva shows just what kind of opportunities are out in Disability Football.”

Pontefract train on a Saturday morning at 10am, while Nostell’s session is held at 6pm on a Friday night.

Anyone over the age of 16 with a disability or learning difficulty is welcome. No previous football experience is required.
