Garforth Town 2-4 Liversedge

Mitch Hamilton and Sam Akeroyd scored as Liversedge defeated their former club Garforth Town

Mitch Hamilton and Sam Akeroyd came back to haunt their old club as Liversedge continued their perfect start with victory at Garforth Town.

Star striker Joe Walton took his tally to five in three games with a double. Garforth’s goal-scorers were Devonte Morton and Curtly Martin-Wyatt in a contest which was closer than the score-line suggests. Although no-one can deny that ‘Sedge deserved their win.

Hamilton, who left Garforth for ‘Sedge in the summer after two seasons in East Leeds, fired the visitors in front in the sixth minute.

The game then turned end-to-end with both sides missing several chances.

‘Sedge doubled their lead in the early stages of the second half after quelling a Garforth fight-back.

Man of the match Akeroyd, who looks a class act in midfield and appears to have really developed into a top player during his three years in the Evo Stik, comfortably dispatched a penalty after Miners goalkeeper Toby Wells felled Walton.

Garforth found a potential route back into the clash when Morton latched onto a cross from the left to score.

However, poor defending was their undoing as Walton clinically struck home two replica goals to punish the hosts.

A smartly taken penalty from Martin-Wyatt reduced the arrears for Garforth, who will look back and rue their missed chances.

‘Sedge, it appears, have recruited really well in the summer and look primed for an excellent campaign.
