Jason Crisp celebrates during Armthorpe’s win at Glasshoughton

Glasshoughton Welfare suffered back to back home defeats after they were defeated in their league game against Armthorpe Welfare.

It looked good for the home side when Adam Walsh opened the scoring, but Armthorpe hit back quickly to take a 2-1 lead at half-time and that is how the score-line stayed.

Glasshoughton made one change from the side beaten by Blyth with Jack Knight replacing Gracyan Klimczak. New signing Lewis Pickering was amongst the substitutes.

The home side were certainly on top in the opening exchanges with Tom Carr having a free-kick charged down.

Ryan Ferguson saw his corner headed against the cross-bar by Sam Pashley with the rebound hooked wide.

Two minutes later Rob Oldham cut in and his powerful shot struck the far post and Adam Stevens managed to flick the rebound for a corner. Oldham took the resultant corner and Walsh stole in to head powerfully past Stevens to open the scoring.

Ferguson was then put through but blocked out by a defender. The visitors were coming more into the game and they equalised on the half hour mark when Jason Crisp netted a brilliant 25 yards free-kick which beat Mateusz Zaniewski into the top corner.

Three minutes from the break Lee Betts increased the Armthorpe lead drilling the ball home from six yards.

The second half opened with Zaniewski saving a free-kick at the second attempt at his near post.

Glasshoughton introduced Pickering on 63 minutes for the injured Andy Horbury and the former Yorkshire Amateur player was soon in the action when he just failed to get onto the end of a Carr cross. He was then put through on goal but could not control the ball and Stevens saved.

Pickering then saw a powerful shot beaten away by Stevens and James Dyson headed well over the bar.

Glasshoughton had one last chance for an equaliser in injury time, but Jack Knight saw his well struck free-kick clawed away by Stevens.
