Selby set for biggest turnout for decade

Carl Stewart’s goal helped set up an FA Cup replay with Kendal Town for Selby Town, who are now expecting their biggest crowd in a decade

Selby Town are all set for another ‘biggest’ game for a decade after holding Evo Stik side Kendal Town to a 1-1 draw in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round.

Selby will now host two leagues higher Kendal in the replay at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium on Tuesday night and it is expected that it will be biggest attendance of local people since the Bob Lyon era.

Carl Stewart was effectively Selby’s hero as it was his goal that gave Christian Fox’s men the lead. Kendal did equalise on the hour.

Kendall will now head to North Yorkshire, arguably fearing the worst.

The draw continues Selby’s sensational revival under Fox. The former York City player, who is well on course to be one of the club’s greatest managers, has rebuilt the club in just 18 months.

Crowds are up on a massive scale, goals are being scored for fun and the number of volunteers is soaring.

Last year’s FA Cup heroes Penistone Church are out after losing 3-1 to Runcorn Town. Sam Scrivens got Penistone’s goal.

Parkgate surprisingly won 2-0 at Brighouse Town. Tim Whittaker and Elliott Simpson got the goals.

Handsworth Parramore lost 1-0 at home to Congleton Town.
