Target man Wood joins Worsbrough

Chris Wood once scored a goal at Worsbrough Bridge which helped Pontefract Collieries win promotion from NCEL Division One on the final day of the 2016/17 season

Target man Chris Wood has been lured back to the Toolstation NCEL by Worsbrough Bridge.

Worsbrough had been so secretive about their new signing that there were rumours that they had pulled off a massive coup in persuading former Barnsley player Jon Parkin to come out of retirement.

It was no surprise that people got over-excited and were looking at the phones every ten seconds given the style of Worsbrough’s tweet which told followers to look out for a signing announcement.

Instead of Parkin, it was former NCEL Division One promotion winner Wood who was revealed to be Worsbrough’s fourth signing of the week.

Wood has played for Parkgate, Pontefract Collieries in the NCEL as well as Ossett Town and Frickley Athletic in the NPL.

Wood scored Pontefract’s opener in the 2-0 final day victory at Worsbrough in 2017. The victory enabled Pontefract to pip Emley to promotion on goal-difference.
