Hilton to lead Stocksbridge into seventh season

Chris Hilton is staying on at Stocksbridge Park Steels

Chris Hilton is to remain as manager of Stocksbridge Park Steels for a seventh campaign.

The news comes 24 hours after the club’s future was secured thanks to a new sponsorship deal.

Side-kick Lee Thompson, the Boston United legend, is staying on as assistant manager.

Hilton’s long reign has been one of stability and loyalty. The Steels have stood by their manager during tough periods and he has rewarded them with memorable FA Trophy runs and one top six finish.

Considering the resources available, Hilton has been a major success at Bracken Moor and previous chairman Allen Bethel and the committee’s 2014 decision to appoint him has been totally justified.

Bethel had ‘scouted’ Hilton during his days at Worsbrough Bridge, the club he transformed from bottom of the table fodder into a top ten outfit before leading them to a season unbeaten at home in the league.

Unbeknown to Hilton, Bethel had sat in the crowd and had observed and admired his calm and authoritative mannerisms – a hallmark of Hilton’s time at Stocksbridge.
