Worsbrough Bridge have turned to one of their invincibles – Luke Forgione – to be their new manager.

The Houghton Main boss was confirmed as the successor to Lee Morris on Wednesday afternoon. Forgione has long craved the opportunity to manage in the NCEL and was always the frontrunner once as Morris resigned.

Forgione was a player for Worsbrough over several stints – including the Chris Hilton invincibles season. He brings a vast knowledge and contacts base to the club having spent years preparing for this kind of opportunity.

Former Worsbrough and Glasshoughton Welfare midfielder Gaz Hunter will be his assistant, with James Ritchie as first team coach.

Chairman Mark Booth said in a statement: “We were all disappointed that Lee Morris had to step away from the club for personal reasons, but with games coming thick and fast it was important that we looked to make what we believe is the right appointment for the club.

“Luke has made no secret that Worsbrough Bridge AFC is a club he wanted to manage having been a player and captain here and we are naturally excited about the future. The board met to review what was a high quality group of applications and we collectively agreed that Luke was the right person for the job.

“We are also pleased to welcome Gareth and James to the club and look forward to working with all three lads and look forward to a successful period under their tenure. I hope that our supporters will get behind Luke and the players in the coming weeks and months and support us in numbers and I am sure together we will enjoy some good times together.”

Forgione’s first game is the East Hull away trip on Saturday.
