Oscar Radford sealed Handsworth’s win

Debutant Oscar Radford’s late goal was decisive as brave Handsworth beat Eccleshill United 2-1 at Olivers’ Mount despite having to play with ten men for 70 minutes.

The Ambers raced into an early lead when young debutant Chandler Gibson crossed from the left and it somehow flew into the top corner. As debuts go, it could have gone better.

Handsworth then lost defender Steve Wankiewicz to a red card as the referee deemed that he had denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity with his arm. Goalkeeper Ben Townsend made his himself a hero by saving the penalty and the subsequent rebound attempt.

Handsworth effectively sealed their win late-on after winning a free kick after a back-pass. The ball was laid off to defender Radford who hammered it home.

Eccleshill grabbed a consolation in the 94th minute from Johnny Irving’s penalty.

Thackley lost 4-1 at Bottesford Town – Dan Broadbent was on target for the Bradford-based side.
