Carl Stewart scored a late penalty in Goole’s win at Barton

Carl Stewart was nine man Goole AFC’s penalty king as his late spot kick earned Mike Carmody’s never-say-die side a remarkable 3-2 victory in the eventful battle at Barton Town.

The game started badly for Goole as Sam Cable saw red after being deemed to have stamped on a Barton player after just nine minutes.

The signs didn’t looked good, especially when Harrison Coley slotted home with ease.

But this is Goole 2021 and the scores were soon level.

Josh Dacre’s power-blaster free kick was saved but Mitch Pattinson was on hand to equalise from the rebound.

Mike Carmody’s men seized the lead three minutes into the second half when Luke Williams carved out a chance for himself and sent a low drive into the far bottom corner.

However, within four minutes Williams’ afternoon from jubilation to despair as he was sent off by keen referee Charles Mulhall who showed him a second yellow card for a fairly innocuous foul.

With nine men for the remaining 38 minutes, backs to the wall was an understatement.

The Goole players were literally throwing themselves in front of shots to stop Barton equalising.

Barton were lucky not to go down to ten men after one of their strikers appeared to head-butt Jordan Emery following a goal-less scramble.

Seven minutes were left when the referee awarded Barton the harsh penalty that allowed them to make it 2-2.

In-form Ben Hinchliffe smashed the spot kick down the middle of the net past Mat Zaniewski.

Despite their numerous disadvantage, Goole went ahead again as Stewart fired home the spot kick after Josh Dacre had been fouled.

Don’t take a breath yet as there was further drama as Barton won a second penalty in added time.

This one from Hinchliffe hit the post and Goole somehow held on to record a magnificent three points.

Maltby Main striker Reggie Waud

Reggie Waud’s double helped Maltby Main canter to a second straight win with the 4-0 away demolition of Eccleshill United.

Johnathan Wiliams (penalty) and Jonathan Hill were also on target for Maltby.

James Oliver continued his hot streak with the only goal in Handsworth’s latest success – the defeat of Winterton Rangers at Olivers Mount.

Kieran Ryan gave Penistone Church the lead but Ian Richards’ men were beaten 3-1 by Sherwood Colliery.

Emley’s trip to Staveley Miners Welfare was postponed.
