Former Frickley Athletic assistant James Dudgeon has joined Dodworth Miners Welfare as one of Darren Young’s assistant managers.

The ex-Barnsley, Scarborough and York City defender ended his very long stint as Karl Rose’s number two last week.

Dudgeon and Rose had worked together for over a decade at Goole AFC, Frickley and more recently Wombwell Town.

Young and Dudgeon have been big pals for 20 years, going back to their days at Oakwell together in the late 1990s.

Young now has three loyal lieutenants at the side of him in the dugout in Dudgeon, Craig Allen and Darren Mllington.

Millington, who reformed Dodworth in 2016 and drove them from Division Two to the top of the Premier Division as manager until stepping in early 2020, returned to the changing room this summer.

Dudgeon arrives in time for the highly-anticipated season opener with Hepworth United at home on Wednesday (kick off 6pm).
