Frickley boss on hunt for new striker after Wells leaves

NPL Division One East

Kieran Wells has left Frickley Athletic

Frickley Athletic manager Dave Frecklington is on hunt for a new striker.

That’s because well-travelled summer signing Kieran Wells has gone to NPL Premier Division outfit Stalybridge Celtic after a short stint with Frickley.

It is a blow but whilst looking for a replacement, Frecklington is prepared to be patient.

“Because of the good start and because Kieran has started well; Stalybridge haven’t started great and they targeted him as a player that could improve their team,” Frecklington told Non League Yorkshire.

“It is the league above and the money they have offered him is good for this level of football so it is the financial side of it why he has left and you can’t blame him for that.

“It leaves a hole for us to fill and we’re on the lookout for a new striker to try and complement his brother Bradley who has been outstanding.

“We have a few irons in the fire and we’re always looking and looking at other teams’ players who aren’t getting a sniff at the moment.

“I’ll never rush into signing anybody.

“It might take us a while to replace Kieran but at the moment I’m happy with the group and it is another opportunity for someone to stake a claim to get in a team that is winning.”

Second-placed Frickley have started the season superbly – winning four out of five of their league fixtures.

Frickley aren’t in midweek action this week but they have a big local derby with Ossett United at Westfield Lane on Friday night to look forward to.

It is expected there will be a big attendance for the fixture.
