Eagle parts company with Handsworth

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Russ Eagle has left Handsworth

Russ Eagle’s second spell in charge of Handsworth has come to an end after the club parted company with him earlier this week.

His surprise departure comes after two consecutive league defeats and nine days after the FA Cup third qualifying round defeat to Pontefract Collieries.

Jason Dodsworth and Aidan Spowage are the new joint managers and were in charge of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League tie with Penistone Church on Wednesday night at Olivers Mount.

Eagle returned to Handsworth in the summer of 2019 and leaves after rebuilding the playing squad and taking the Ambers to their furthest point in the FA Cup.

His first spell back in the early 2010s saw them win the Division One title and President’s Cup.

He had a stint in charge of Handsworth Parramore during the merger years – weirdly he left them on the 11th October, the same date of his latest exit from Handsworth.

A statement said:”It was with sadness that the difficult decision was made , but it was a decision that was made with the best interests of all parties in mind .

“Russ has guided the club through our playing return to Sheffield building a squad from scratch that can compete in the NCEL Premier division and he has steered us through the COVID disrupted seasons , working tirelessly for our cause both on and off the pitch.

“Russ leaves us with our sincere thanks for all his hard work and his dedication to his role and the club , and leaves us with an open invitation to visit us whenever he pleases where a warm welcome awaits .

“The club will be making no further comment on Russ’s departure.”
