Yorkshire Amateur joint manager Neil Sibson hopes injured defender James Beaston will return to the fold in the next few weeks.

Former Garforth Town captain Beaston went off injured with a suspected broken ankle during the Ammers’ memorable defeat of previously unbeaten Liversedge on Saturday.

However, the injury is less severe.

“It looked pretty bad and he ended up in hospital on Saturday night after coming off at half-time,” Sibson told Non League Yorkshire.

“Luckily it is not as bad as first feared and it is light ligament damage.

“We’re looking him at being out for a couple of weeks.

“They thought he had broken his ankle as it was cut and swollen.

“It is a bit black now but not as bad as we thought it was.

“Ligament damage is not good but it is a lighter strain.”

Beaston was seen in the crowd during the Ammers’ cruel 2-1 defeat to Worksop Town on Tuesday night.

A last minute Vaughan Redford goal snatched a dramatic victory for Craig Parry’s Worksop.

The Ammers survived a first half onslaught and managed to score an equaliser in the second stanza.

Sibson was really pleased with how the Ammers performed after half-time but said Worksop were the better side.

“We played Saturday and we raised our game to beat Liversedge,” he said.

“(Worksop) played Saturday but they played on a 3G pitch so it wouldn’t have been as heavy on them on their legs.

“It took a lot out of us did Saturday and we are a little bit thin on the ground and I think it was a game too far.

“We were light on the bench with two outfield players due to injuries and suspensions.

“My summary of the game is we were lucky to come in at 1-0 at half-time.

“(Worksop) won every ball and we were second to everything.

“They are a big side and they must have had 12 or 13 corners and we defended superbly with bodies on the line.

“I’m proud of the lads for the second half performance.

“I was a bit fearful at half-time and I said if we continue to play the way we were playing, i.e not winning the battle and earning the right to play, I was fearful the game would end up 5-0.

“It is a bit of a sickener to lose in the last minute but I will admit that Worksop did deserve to win the game.”
